As the second star of our #shessofly series, we’re highlighting Ariana Huffington. She’s a name that everyone knows, most likely for founding The Huffington Post and becoming the Editor-in-Chief of The Huffington Post Media Group.
Ariana moved to the UK at 16 years old to study economics at Girton College, Cambridge. She was the first foreign, and third female president of the Cambridge Union. As an adult, she grew to be very involved in politics, eventually running, but losing, for Governor of California. After that, she founded The Huffington Post in 2005, launching as a commentary outlet, blog, and alternative news aggregator. It was acquired by AOL in 2011, which is when Ariana became Editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post Media Group. In 2016, she departed from The Huffington Post, in order to start Thrive Global.
Thrive Global offers science-based solutions to end stress and burnout. She started the company to help people with work/life balance and becoming healthier. Ariana hosts the podcast for the site, with iHeart Radio, and guests have included Jennifer Aniston, Mark Cuban, Katy Perry, and more. Cocoon Career Consulting high recommends checking out both the website and the podcast for more on a “balanced lifestyle.” https://thriveglobal.com/
Today, Huffington serves on the board of directors of the Berggruen Institute, the Center for Public Integrity, Uber, and Onex Corporation. She remains a very powerful woman in business, and has been named to Time Magazine’s list of the world’s 100 Most Influential People and Forbes Most Powerful Women list.
