Introducing…. Cocoon Career Consulting’s #shessofly series!
Each week, we’ll highlight a kick@$$, boss lady in marketing who has taken a unique journey to get where she is today. It’ll be someone who is inspiring, fun, smart, and ambitious. The marketing industry has so many women like this, we were overwhelmed with where to even begin. When choosing our first #shessofly feature, we wanted someone who was a professional role model for us. A woman whose work ethic, career and character we wanted to emulate.
This brought us to Bozoma St. John. If you haven’t heard of her, it’s time to do your research, people! From her days at ad agencies, eventually to high ranking positions within PepsiCo, and then helping get Apple Music off the ground, before taking the role of Chief Branding Officer at Uber, and now the CMO of Netflix… OMG, can you say FABULOUS?!?! And not to mention, BRILLIANT.
Her personal story is one that will touch your heart, not only when she talks about leaving Nigeria as a child, or her husband’s eventual death, but the beautiful way she talks about raising her daughter Lael. Her Instagram (@badassboz) is chalked full of bright colored outfits, absolute happiness, and her intense business grind. For her story, check out CNN’s BossFiles Podcast on Spotify (the Bozoma St. John episode).
While some of our kick@$$, boss ladies featured will be more well known within the marketing industry or at giant companies, we also want to feature women who have expertly learned how to market themselves through running a small business. Branding and building a business yourself, no matter how big or small, takes a special kind of genius, and we’ll have the pleasure of interviewing and posting the interview for all of you to read and get inspired.
We cannot wait to introduce you to all of these women in due time, but in the meantime, comment below for your choices of who is going to be featured next on #shessofly
